Anesthesia and Intensive Care

The purpose of anesthesia at our hospitals is to allow surgeons to conduct examinations and operations under conditions that are safe and comfortable.

Anesthesia and Intensive Care

Anesthesia and Intensive Care treatment in Germany

Before, during and after the operation, anesthetists ensure that the patient’s circulation and breathing remain stable. The Anesthesia Clinic is responsible for the successful treatment of pain throughout the operation and during the ensuing postoperative period.

The Anesthesia Clinic at the Evangelisches Waldkrankenhaus Spandau is the only anesthesia unit in Berlin and Brandenburg to give its patients the option of anesthetic treatment using the inert gas xenon, which produces fewer side effects than any other general anesthetic in use around the world.

In current practice, xenon is particularly recommended for very elderly patients, those with acute or very acute heart conditions and those at risk of suffering very severe postoperative disorientation. In such cases, patients can be given effective help during the actual operation.

The Anesthesia Clinic's Head of Department, Dr. med. Stephan-Matthias Reyle-Hahn, has been working with physicians around the world for over ten years at both a scientific and practical level.

The clinic has a great deal of experience in the area of pediatric anesthesia and pain relief for children.
